So this semester has felt like I just got hit by a battering ram that I didn't see coming. At the moment I am in the second last week of uni before revision week, or swot vac week, and about head deep in assignments and course material I have yet to go through. The courses I am doing are all heavily assignment based with large workloads. So far at uni there has only been one maybe two of these courses in each semester that seem to take all the time out of the week but there are four this semester and I have most definitely learned to organise myself and my time efficiently this semester. It has been a juggling act the entire way through but a huge learning experience that will only benefit me in the long run.
Well besides from the large study workload I have been applying for vacation work over the summer. My focus has been on mining and energy companies because that is where I would really like to be when I enter the workforce. I would really love to gain the experience of applying the knowledge I have gained at uni and find out what it is really like working as an engineer. Unfortunately I haven't been accepted anywhere as of yet but I'll find something.
The opportunity to be able to use my 'spare' time over those 12 weeks between semester 2 and semester 1 towards my career is actually pretty exciting. I can't wait to get started (and for the uni semester to be over ;p).

One semester at a time
Hey all,
It has been a while since I last blogged as I have been busy elsewhere in the world vacationing. Over my holidays I have been doing exactly that, holidaying, in the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
My time for holidaying has come to another pause for the new semester. Now I'm busy organising my timetable and will be juggling the aspects of my life each week again. Unfortunately this morning I slept in half an hour too late and was late into signing on for one of my classes. As all uni students will have come to learn that signing on half an hour late to a class means you have the worst times for classes such as the Monday mornings or the Friday afternoons. Most of my classes aren't flexible too much but I didn't get the class times that I would have liked and so have a 3 hour break during my Thursdays. I guess the lesson here is to remember to turn on your alarm for the morning and rid the holiday mindset.
So my last semester results were better than I had expected, which is always a plus. (That 9 in the morning till 9 at night study sessions I did during swot vac obviously paid off ;p.)
I have a feeling that this semester will be really busy (more so than usual :O) as the subjects look much more difficult and in depth than my previous subjects. My plan of attack is to keep up with the course content during the semester and get all my assignments done early. This should be my plan every semester but, and probably every uni student would empathise with me, this plan hardly ever works (a lack of social life is expected).
So until next time and thanks for reading.

Uni Exams
Hi all,
I know it has been a very long time since I've last posted but I have a reasonable excuse. I have been focusing on uni exams. Now I know that it's only a two week period but I go to uni to get a good grade so I start studying properly quite a few weeks before.
The last few weeks before semester finished was pretty crazy for me because of the 15 million things that had to be done at what felt like the same time. I think I had something like 5 assignments due all within that last two weeks. It was hectic.
Well anyway, swot vac week, or revision week, has passed and the time has now come for the exams to commence. So far I have completed two out of four exams. My maths and electrical engineering courses. I think I went pretty well on both. Now all I have left is my mechanical design and manufacturing, and structures and materials. They should be the more difficult ones so I'm studying what seems like 20 hours everyday.
I'm just waiting till the last exam has finally come and been done and I'm able to put my feet up and have a few beers while watching the rest of the world cup.

24 hours isn't enough
To my dedicated followers,
I would like to take the time now to explain how only twenty four hours per day is simply not enough to accomplish all the you want to in that one day. This awareness has stemmed from my recent increase in workload at uni (this was to be expected as it is nearing the end of semester), my need to work a part time job to fuel my life, my training nights doing judo and my unfulfilled desire to do more sport.
In the last few weeks I have found it very much difficult to organise all these activities. This is particularly because of the inconsistent nature of working as a casual and the unforseen circumstances from uni that consume much time. For example, last week I had to resit my maths mid semester exam. Now this wasn't because I had failed so badly they felt bad for me or even that I was ill. This was because of a simple fire alarm which had very unthoughtfully decided to do its job 15 minutes before the exam was finished. I can understand having to resit the exam (which conincidentally was on my birthday) but it had indeed cut into my social activities I had planned for that night (i.e drinking a few beers and then admiring John Mayer's brilliant guitar skill at his concert).
In the end it was all very well and good; and I didn't even miss the beginning of the concert, although I did miss a few beers :(. But, unfortunately this is the life of a uni student. Sometimes you just have to sacrifice the social life or activities you enjoy doing due to unforseen circumstances.
I guess this is a very good point on the importance of time organisation but that's another whole blog ;p.
So anyway I just hope you now understand my dissatisfaction of a day being only twenty four hours long.

The first blog's sequel
Hey all,
This last few weeks has been interesting. I've been busy as a one legged river dancer with all the assignments I have and trying to still keep a social life. Good news is I've returned back to judo since my surgery. Unfortunately I had to have a few months off to have a carcinoma removed from my tongue but now I'm back and ready to pommel people to the mat.
So I think uni is at the point in the semester where the assessment is beginning to really pile up and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it's so very small. For one of my subjects I have 3 assignments due within the same week and they're all weighted about 20%; so they can't be just half-done. Then also I have assessment for my other subjects which all seemingly and oh so very conveniently overlap with the due dates of every other one of my assignments.
Anyways, what I'm learning is still pretty interesting. There is just a lot of work to be done but so far all is good. I'm keeping on top of it. I just need to sacrifice some social time to do it but it'll be worth it when I eventually graduate and start earning the big bucks. :p

My first post
So this is my first blog and I'd like to say welcome all. I think i heard echos after that one but i think this shall be an interesting concept.
Anyways, this week at uni has been interesting. Every subject seems to be piling mountains onto my inbox. My workload has a stretching upper limit at the moment. Good thing is all that stretching might mean it'll fly back to normal soon. One can hope. I guess the one fact that makes it all easier is that I enjoy learning what I am learning. Does not make procrastination occur any less though.
So I hope all you blogees out there reading this now have an understanding of week 4 at university. ;p
